BED FOR A CHILD
Research has shown that about 90% of children in rural communities sleep on the floor, they never have good sleep/night rest which is detrimental to their health. Children who sleep on the floor struggles in school, have weak immune system, decreased focus, emotional problems, increased levels of depression and anxiety, fewer or weaker relationship, mental problems and behavioral issues which are vices to the society as a whole. For these reasons and more, its incredibly important for Children of all ages to get enough rest on a daily basis and a good sleeping place is a big part of it.
In 2021, purple billion initiative for vulnerable and displaced persons carried out this project “Bed for a Child” in Budupe community in Mpape town (a rural area of the federal Capital Territory-Abuja), the Budupe village is about 3KM away from the hills of Mpape town FCT-Abuja housing about 450 persons living in this village, with about 280 children which 63% of these children sleep on the floor. The bed for a child project was able to provide Bunks, Comfortable mattresses and Pillows to greater percentage of the children in Budupe Village to ease them the discomfort and unhealthy conditions they faced through especially in this post-Covid Era. the aim of this project is to eliminate completely the number of children sleeping on the floor.
